BC MAP welcomes a new non-resident intern – Katerina Valkova

The Budapest Centre for Mass Atrocities Prevention (BCMAP) is pleased to welcome Katerina Valkova as the new Non-Resident Research Assistant of the organization.

Katerina Valkova holds a Joint honours BA degree in International relations and Russian Language from the University of Leeds. During her MSc in Security Studies degree from University College London, she developed an interest in forecasting mass atrocities, and, thus, the particular political and socio-economic factors that can make a state more prone to conflicts.

Ms Valkova has gained practical experience working at the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Bulgarian Parliament and UNDP SEESAC, where she focused on counter-terrorist measures, small arms and light weapons trafficking, and gender equality in the armed forces. She has also worked as an International Desk Editor at a news website in Bulgaria, covering EU affairs, the Eurasia and MENA regions.

At the BCMAP she will assist by providing research background, drafting and copy editing policy papers, as well as working on her own research, focused at the nexus between poverty, radicalization and mass atrocities.
