On June 13, 2016, the Budapest Centre hosted a workshop of the African Task Force on Mass Atrocities Prevention Initiative (ATF) with the Peace and Security Division of the Intergovernamental Authority on Development (IGAD) and IGAD’s Conflict Early Warning and Response Mechanism (CEWARN) in Addis Ababa.

During the workshop, our staff and the Senior Researcher of the ATF on IGAD, Dr. Sunday Okello, shared the preliminary findings of the ATF research on the relevant capabilities of the IGAD’s Peace and Security Division with key officials of the division and CEWARN.

By the end of the workshop, both IGAD’s representatives and the Chair of the Budapest Centre, Dr. Gyorgy Tatar, expressed their willingness in fostering the cooperation between the organizations with the future signature of a Memorandum of Understanding.

The final report of the ATF will be released in the coming months with the objective of enhancing the regional capacity for conflict and mass atrocities prevention of African regional intergovernmental organizations.
