Even if ongoing hostilities were halted through “transactional” mediation in the near term, the risk of renewed conflict would persist, and the conditions for stability and prosperity would remain frozen in the medium and long term.
This begs the question: how has it come to this? What are the weaknesses of current diplomatic approaches, and how can we prevent war and renew security in the future?
“The Alliance for Dialogue” plans to launch a series of online Dialogue Sessions to explore
- the conditions and ways for strengthening dialogue and diplomacy to balance the current prevail of military and transactional mindsets;
- the possibilities for restoring pan-European security and stability;
Participants of the series will include academics, former political leaders, retired diplomats, conflict resolution specialists, think tanks, and civil society representing diverse perspectives.
Prior to the launch of the Initiative, the organizers invite You for an on-line panel discussion on
“Why Does Diplomacy Fail and Militarism Win?”
where the following questions will be set on the agenda:
- Why did diplomacy fail to prevent wars?
- What values guide the Global South in their approach toward wars?
- How can conflict parties and international actors be motivated to revitalize diplomacy and dialogue in the present international environment?
Panelists:
Dan Smith, Dan Smith Consulting
Ehud Eiran, University of Haifa
Artemy Magun, Institute for Global Reconstitution
Mihail Krikunov, Kyiv Business School
The panel will take place between 15.00 - 17.00 CET on 7 April, 2026
Each of the four panelists will have 25 minutes to share their views, consisting of a 10-minute presentation followed by three 5-minute rounds of reactions.
The session will be recorded and used as basis for an eight-member reflection group meeting to take place between 15.00-17.00 CET on 23 April, 2026.
The panelists will be allowed to also take part in the group meeting.
The insights generated during the panel discussion and reflection group meeting will help shape and refine the final concept and agenda of the webinar series.
According to the agreement with the panelists, the record of the session might be disseminated.
