Education and Trainings

Why education is important in atrocity crimes prevention?

While the Responsibility to Protect (RtoP) and its second pillar the assistance in capacity building is increasingly recognized as an important part of the international agenda , the International Community does not pay sufficiant attention to the education of the new generation that is a fundamental pre-condition of effectively prevent the occurrance of mass atrocities. The Budapest Centre for the International Prevention for Genocide and Mass Atrocities recognizes the need to integrate RtoP related topics into the curricula of secondary schools and university level courses, particularly in countries suffered from or threatened by mass atrocities. The Budapest Centre believes that the promotion of prosocial learning in primary schools, proactive learning of mass atrocities related issues in the secondary schools and „training” the future trainers in the universities could substantially contribute to positively impact on the mindset of the whole society and so prevent the occurrence of tragedies. The Budapest Centre, therefore, wishes to contribute to the process of mainstreaming RtoP in education.
